I love how exciting that title is.

Matte liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now, and for good reason. For me, matte is best. It looks so much nicer than shiny lipstick. All my daily lipsticks and most worn lipsticks are matte – it’s all I wear, much to the dismay of my lips. So I thought I’d try and find the best liquid lipstick from the drugstore – not everyone can afford Kat Von D, Anastasia Beverley Hills and not everyone is quick enough to secure a Kylie Lip Kit!

So first up we have the classic Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream. These were the first liquid lip products I got, and I instantly fell in love with them. I picked the shade Stockholm to review today because it’s my favourite – not because I’ve lost my other two…..Ahem. So Stockholm is a really gorgeous nude; I see it as quite an orangey nude but it dries quite light nude on the lips. These dry super quickly but they can be quite drying!

The staying power is pretty good, I only have to reapply after eating and I don’t find that applying over what’s left overly dries out my lips – which is a plus! Also these smell like vanilla. Always a bonus. I tend to not use lipliner anymore when applying any matte lip product because I find it dries my lips out way more with a lipliner – anyone else have this problem?!

Next up we have the beloved Nyx Lip Lingerie. I’ve been pining after these for so long but only just got around to getting some – mad!! I went for the shade Push Up and Ruffle Trim – I’ve picked Push Up for today’s review! It’s kinda similar to Stockholm, it’s a bit more beige rather than pinky nude. First thing that stood out to me was how drying they are, much more than the Soft Matte Creams! I have lost the lipliner now though and that seems to be helping. I feel like these have a very Kylie Lip Kit look – they’re so sophisticated!

The staying power for this is incredible. I test the staying power of liquid lipsticks by wearing them to work – usually gives me a pretty good indication of the quality! I would pop a layer of this on in the morning and wouldn’t need to apply again all day, even after eating my lunch! One thing I will say about this is that if you apply over the original layer, it will dry out your lips. You’re better off removing the product then reapplying – but really, who has time for that?

Next up is probably my least favourite of the 4 (spoilers) – the New Look Pure Colours matte liquid lip colour in Plum. Gorgeous colour, gorgeous packaging, the product…eh. It’s not very good. Good pigmentation, but it’s the most drying product ever! No matter how much you moisturise or exfoliate beforehand you will be left with dry, cracking lips after an hour.

It’s such a shame because this is a lovely colour – I just cannot get past how drying it is! I bought another one too see if it was the same and I haven’t even worn it out yet, it practically comes out the tube dry! I’m really selling these to you, aren’t i?!

Last up is my most recent liquid lippy buy – the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid…thing. It ends after Liquid on the packaging, so it’s just a Liquid. I got it in the shade Orange Shot because I love orange lipsticks, but don’t have any mattes! This takes longer to dry than the others, but it’s by far the least drying and the longest lasting!

I’m so obsessed with this colour, I think I’ve worn it almost every day since I got it! This doesn’t dry out my lips at all – and I can eat, drink, heck I could probably even nap and this wouldn’t budge! The only bad thing is the shade range, there’s not many nude options, but hopefully Maybelline will choose to expand their shade range! I definitely need to go pick up a few more of these.

The clear winner here is the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid! The two Nyx products are also worth a buy – but if I was you, I wouldn’t go new the New Look Matte Liquid lipsticks!
